The 118,000 sq foot indoor entertainment and racing facility, which is the biggest event space in Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY, had just opened its doors in January 2008 when the economy began to falter. Nevertheless, GPNY began supporting local non-profits immediately. Every year, GPNY gives away over 1,200 donations to charitable institutions. Some local charities that have benefited from GPNY-hosted events include:
● The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (White Plains)
● A-HOME (Pleasantville)
● The Chappaqua School Foundation (Chappaqua)
● Westhab (Elmsford)
And GPNY plans on lending a helping hand to more charitable organizations – and in more ways – through the end of the year. GPNY in November is now adding a bowling to bolster its kart racing entertainment venue. Spins Bowl, a 19-lane bowling alley which is located within the large facility, is slated to open in November. On November 18, the new bowling alley will have its very first charitable benefit: The "Strikes Against Cancer Bowl-A-Thon" for Support Connection of Yorktown Heights. Support Connection is a local non-profit organization who offers free support programs for people who have been affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Spins Bowl is aiming to raise at the minimym, $5,000 to help Support Connection in their cause.
This fall, both GPNY and Spins Bowl have racing and bowling fundraising events planned for:
● Starlight Children's Foundation (New York City)
● Music Conservatory of Westchester (White Plains)
"For organizations that rely on donations to survive, it's hard enough when times are good," said Nat Mundy, Vice President, Marketing for Grand Prix New York. "So we are very happy we can be hospitable neighbors to a lot of non-profits when times are tough. Giving back to the community has been a primary mission of Grand Prix New York since the day we opened. So it's a privilege for us to be able to offer an exciting and unique setting for all who are as dedicated to giving back to that same community as we are."
During the latest GPNY fundraiser for the Mount Kisco Library, event planner Sheila Smith of Square Events mentioned, "It's the 100th anniversary of the library, so it's something to celebrate, that we've had such a wonderful institution in our town, for an entire century serving the community. We wanted to build an event that tied into the car as well as give people an opportunity to experience a really wonderful facility."Over $40,000 was raised because of the fundraising event.
