Junior Racing School / Camps

The Junior Racing School at Grand Prix New York is open to juniors 7 to 16 years of age and is a perfect way to jumpstart a racing career. It is also an excellent opportunity to introduce future drivers to the basic dynamics of a kart, which will undoubtedly improve their awareness and ability to safely drive a street car in today’s demanding commuting environment. Karting is the most affordable and easily accessible form of motor sports especially when the kart is being rented out. There are no start-up costs, no short race days due to mechanical failures, no dirty hands and no commitments. Programs are offered on a pre-scheduled per-event basis. Show up, suit up and go. Our classes are led by our professional driver and instructor Stevan McAleer from Scotland. With over 12 years experience in Karting, Formula cars and Sedans and with multiple championship wins under his belt he provides the expertise and commitment to help the progression of all our junior drivers throughout our schools. Enrollment is held to no more than 25 students in our novice courses and no more than 15 students for our advanced courses. This makes a huge difference in the amount of personal attention and track time each student receives. Upon completion, students receive a Racing License and a complimentary GPNY Annual Membership which does not expire until they are 18!  

Grand Prix New York offers the most complete and exciting junior kart racing program, starting with the Novice 2-day racing schools, progressing to the Advanced 5-day racing camps. For students that graduate from the schools, weekend championships are the next thing in line. Practice times and week-day racing are also available for those not interested in running in more competitive championships. Don’t forget that all of the equipment and karts are provided. Our camps run from 9am-3pm each day with lunch included. Both Novice and Advanced courses consist of around 70% driving and 30% classroom work.

The 5 day Novice Camp is the perfect summer idea for your little ones. This camp in particular is specifically for drivers ranging from the ages 7-16 with little or no experience in karting/driving. With the best instructors on hand and the participants actually driving and racing against each other at speeds of up to 40mph this is without a doubt a very exciting 5 day Summer program that will leave your children wanting to come back time and time again. Multiple techniques and skills will be acquired over the 5 days with them learning important lessons they will be able to use in later life when they are let loose on the public roads. The full curriculum of the course can be sent out on request.

The 5 Day advanced Camp is for not only drivers that are interested in learning more than just the basics but drivers who have a competitive edge about them. Over the course of the 5 days we go into detail on racing lines, passing exercises , defending your position and look into cutting the la p  times down as much as possible. On day four and five of the camp we wet the track down to really test their skills in learning to deal with different slicker road surfaces. There is no question this camp pushes individuals to their limit and even for a beginner that has just completed the Novice camp this is absolutely the next step in improving on the track. Mostly suitable for drivers ranging from the ages 7 to 16 with experience in kart racing or other type of driving.

Our Novice 2 Day Junior Racing Schools are open to kids ranging between the ages of 7 and 16 that are just being introduced to real driving. Not only will we teach your child how to race a kart but it will also introduce them to kart control skills that they will use as they get older to become safer and more prepared drivers on the public roads today. This is a shorter version of the 5 Day Summer Camps covering exactly the same criteria.

The Advanced 2 day program offers junior racers a much more in depth racing school. Solely focusing on race craft, passing and concentrating heavily on the racing line, this school takes driving to the next level even for experienced junior drivers… It is 100% recommended that a prior novice school has been taken before participation. We aim this at league drivers struggling to make passes, league drivers not finishing where they would like, drivers wanting to get faster lap times, competitive drivers that want to win. All junior drivers will learn something attending one of our Advanced 2 day Junior Racing Schools
